Our Park Managers Insider Tips

Our park manager, Alisa, is a serial adeventurer. Here are her top 6 underated must do’s!

1. Agnes Falls A stunning waterfall that flows all year round, and the best part, you can take your dog. There are picnic tables, a rotunda, and toilet facilities, making it a perfect easy stop for everyone.

2. McLoughlins Beach Head down to the boat ramp and cross the inlet via the bridge. Once across, take a short track that leads you through to the surf beach. It’s a huge, open beach and a great place to play in the sand, however it is not patrolled, so take care in the water. It’s also a great spot for birdlife, including pelicans, especially when fishermen are cleaning their catch

3. Minnehaha Falls A stunning waterfall located right by the roadside, no walking required. While the track behind the falls is overgrown, the falls themselves and the river are more than enough to enjoy. There are picnic tables overlooking the falls, and you can even go for a swim.

4. Toora Bird Hide A short, easy walk from the car park along a beach and treed track leads you to a wooden bird hide. Inside, you’ll find seating, information displays, and viewing windows. Bring a thermos and enjoy a quiet cuppa while watching the birds.

5. Tarra-Bulga National Park A beautiful rainforest park with a range of walking tracks. A must-do is the suspension bridge, perfect for a peaceful wander surrounded by lush forest.

6. Turtons Creek Falls Located approximately 40km from Long Jetty, these falls are right by the roadside and easy to access. There are also walking tracks in the area if you feel like exploring further. For the latest local tips and track information, it’s best to check in with the visitor information centers in Foster or Yarram.

– Gummy sharks
– Squid
– Whiting

Offshore fishing
Head a bit wider and you can target:
– Kingfish
– Whiting
– Tuna
– Gummy sharks

Best rigs & bait
– Use a paternoster rig for most bottom fishing
– Flathead bait: a simple piece of pilchard works well

– Squid
– Mullet (marcel)
– Yellowtail
– Pilchards

Off the jetty
Right from the jetty you can catch:
– Flathead
– Snapper
– Squid
– Trevally
– Kingfish
Best results: Fish 1 hour before and 1 hour after tide changes

Night & low tide tips
– Try night fishing on a high tide for flounder spearing
– At low tide, pump for bass yabbies
– Excellent bait for whiting

Overnight boating spot
– Refuge Cove
– Great sheltered anchorage for an overnight stop
– Ideal break in a fishing trip if you’re exploring further offshore
